Warriors win three at D-NH

By Becky Walz,

Getting on the mats for four duals, the South Winn wrestling team picked up three wins Saturday at the Dike-New Hartford duals.
The Warriors defeated Marshalltown 42-36, the hosts (D-NH) 39-37 and OABCIG 66-18. Their lone loss was to Mount Vernon 57-12.
“It was a good day of wrestling for us. We were able to see some different teams and see some new competition. Dual tournaments are fun because we get a lot of good matches individually, but also get that team feel that duals bring. With several of these duals close, we needed everyone to do their part. I thought we were aggressive on top and we had kids looking for turns all day. I also thought put kids did a good job of knowing their role and understanding match strategy,” said Coach Jake Elsbernd. “We continue to be pretty banged up, but are looking forward to getting some rest and being ready to go come January.”
South Winn will compete tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 21) in a triangular in Harmony (Minn.) at 5 p.m. with Fillmore Central and Waukon. After the holidays, the Warriors will begin again at a tournament in Osage Monday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.
