Wenthold scores 11 of Warriors’ 16

By Becky Walz,

Junior Karissa Wenthold paced the South Winn girls’ basketball team (2-6, 2-4 UIC) effort against Kee (5-3, 5-2 UIC) Friday night to no avail as the Lady Warriors fell 40-16 at home.
Struggling to get offensive momentum, it was halfway through the opening quarter before South Winn got its points on the board Friday. Kee took a 15-7 lead into the second quarter and pushed ahead to 26-12 by halftime. Both teams had a quiet second half as the Hawks outscored the home team 14-4.
“It was a tough night for us from the floor. We really struggled to get into a flow on offense,” said Coach Justin Izer. “I thought defensively our effort was there, they just made a few good plays.”
Tuesday, the Warriors were at Postville, and will host MFL MarMac Thursday, Dec. 21, to close out the 2023 portion of the season at 6:15 p.m.
