Whitsitt breaks Duwe’s three-point record

Junior Bryar Duwe’s record six treys in a game was short-lived as Yazmeen Whitsitt broke the 10-day old record Monday when the Decorah girls’ basketball team (13-6, 8-1 NEIC) played at Charles City (0-18, 0-9 NEIC). The Vikings overpowered the Comets, 69-39.

Junior Bryar Duwe’s record six treys in a game was short-lived as Yazmeen Whitsitt broke the 10-day old record Monday when the Decorah girls’ basketball team (13-6, 8-1 NEIC) played at Charles City (0-18, 0-9 NEIC). The Vikings overpowered the Comets, 69-39.
The Vikings were firing on all cylinders from start to finish, draining 25 points in the first quarter for a 25-10 lead. Despite the lower scoring second period, Decorah maintained a comfortable 39-21 advantage at the half. In the third, the Red and Blue outscored the Comets 18-5 and closed out the game in the fourth.
Whitsitt connected on seven treys in the contest, scoring 33 total points for the Vikes. Kylie O’Hara provided 11, while Haley Gossman added 10 points. Also in the scorebook were Bryar Duwe with eight points, Annika Franzen with five and Maddy Fromm with two.
Decorah will close out the regular season on the road Friday, Feb. 11, at Waverly-Shell Rock.
