The Decorah softball team (13-5, 10-2 NEIC) had a solid week of wins, hosting New Hampton (4-13, 3-9 NEIC) on Wednesday and facing off in a double header against Waverly-Shell Rock (7-13, 3-8 NEIC) on Thursday. The Vikes collected three wins in three games, and even picked up a couple of homeruns for good measure.
A win at home
It was a slow start for the Vikings, who were down two runs going into the bottom of the fourth. That changed when Avery Shelton got up to bat in the fourth, and the dinger she hit sailed out of the park for a homerun. Along with her feat at the plate, she threw a stunning eight strikeouts throughout the night.
The Chickasaws were able to score two more runs at the top of the sixth, but just when the pressure was on, the Vikings answered with four runs of their own to win the game. A combination of solid batting, walks and smart advances on throws led Ella Kittelson to cross the plate for the game-winning point, ending the tense contest at 5-4.

Twinbill at W-SR
The runs came steadily in the Viking’s first game against the Go-Hawks. The third inning featured yet another Shelton homerun, this time plating three with Emma Johnson and Abby Milburn already on base.
Despite eight strikeouts from W-SR, Decorah still managed to keep up the hits and play the field aggressively, ending the first game at 6-2 for the Vikings.
The Vikings upped the intensity for the second contest, more than doubling their score with 13 runs by the end of the fifth inning. They had a defense to match, letting through only one Go-Hawk run with pitcher Emma Johnson allowing only three hits. The game ended early after the fifth, with a decisive 13-1 ruling for Decorah.
