The South Winn girls’ basketball team (7-13, 5-9 UIC) not only saluted its trio of seniors Friday night, it also was a night for the Warriors to defeat Kee High (7-13, 5-9 UIC) at home, 42-25.
The Warriors hit the floor running, giving up just one point in the first period to lead 11-1, then doubled their effort for a 22-11 advantage at halftime. SW kept up the effort in the second half to secure the win.
It was another double-double night for senior Janessa Zweibahmer with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Morgan Kleve dropped in in six points to go with six boards. Also with six points was Ali Heying who managed to snare two boards and four steals.
“We played well. Although we didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, we still managed to put up 42 points. I think that’s a big stepping stone for us. Janessa Zweibahmer had a career night for us on the offensive side. That provided a big spark for us on both ends. We have some momentum heading into the postseason now which is huge. We will have a good week of practice and be ready to go for Saturday,” said Coach Justin Izer.
The Lady Warriors will be prepping this week for the postseason which begins at home Saturday, Feb. 12, versus Starmont at 7 p.m.
