The Decorah boys’ track and field dominated the competition Friday at Waukon, collecting 10 victories on its way to 202 points. Waukon was a distant second with 137 points.
“We counted up all the personal best performances (including split times) from the evening and came up with 26 total,” said Coach Joel Rollinger.
Aside from breaking the tape in all relay events, seven individual events won gold.
Joseph Hjelle won two titles with wins in both the shot put (49’4”) and discus (143’0”). Haywood Stowe was the sprint champion in the 100-meter (11.68) and 200-meter dashes (23.11). Also a two-time winner was Brady Hogan, winning the 800-meter run (2:08.07) and 3200-meter run (9:51.30). It was senior Cael Luzum stopping the clock first in the 400-meter dash in 54.64 seconds.
The sprint medley quartet of Addae Whitsitt, Luzum, Nick Einck and Kyle Renken set the stage for the wins in 1:41.50. Adding to the success were Bennett Schutte, August Witt, Brayden Hartl and Joe Stammeyer in the 4×800. The foursome combined for a time of 8:59.21. It was Austin Wilkins, Briggs Duwe, Dakota Johnson and Jacob Pipho breaking the tape in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:05.16.
Going for gold in 3:50.86 in the distance medley relay were N. Einck, Renken, Corbyn Palmer and Hogan Smith. Later it was Whitsitt, Drew Snyder, Pipho and Ben Wymer winning the 4×200 relay in 1:35.87. The night ended with the 4×100 and 4×400 relays winning. Joining forces in the 4×100 were Whitsitt, Luzum, Snyder and N. Einck in 45.12 seconds. Duwe, Renken, Schutte and Pipho posted a time of 3:37.76 in the 4×400 relay for the win.
