Decorah reigns supreme at home; Warriors fourth

Dominating the nine-team field, the Decorah boys’ track and field team collected 172 points for another title, while South Winn finished with 73 points in fourth place Monday night.

Vikings dictate
With 10 winning events, Decorah ruled its home relays. 
In the field events it was Joseph Hjelle sending the shot put 48 feet 5.5 inches for gold.
Haywood Stowe won his second consecutive 100-meter dash on the Vikings’ home track, breaking the tape in 11.23 seconds. In the 800-meter run it was Hogan Smith coming out victorious in 2:08.85, eight seconds ahead of second place. Brady Hogan dominated the long-distance races, winning both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. The senior won the shorter race in 4:37.87 and broke the tape in the 3200-meter race in 11:19.19.
In the relays it was the 4×800 winning first with the team members of Smith, Bennett Schutte, August Witt and Brayden Hartl. The Vikings had the winning time of 9:01.41. Austin Wilkins, Briggs Duwe, Dakota Johnson and Jacob Pipho traversed the obstacles in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:05.84 for the win. Combining in a time of 3:58.35 was the distance medley quartet of Jaden Baker, Charlie Robinson, Corbyn Palmer and Trey McCain. Victorious in the 4×100 were Addae Whitsitt, Cael Luzum, Drew Snyder and Stowe in 44.82 seconds. The night ended with Decorah winning the 4×400 relay. Pipho, Duwe, Schutte and Hartl turned in a time of 3:42.37 for the gold.
Runners-up for the Vikings were Hjelle in the discus (131’0”), Witt in the 800-meter run (2:16.44) and the 4×200 relay (1:36.60).

South Winn’s best
The South Winn squad had two events collect the top prize. The sprint medley quartet of Zach Taylor, Cael Kuboushek, Sam Conway and Dominic Sisneros broke the tape in 1:42.90 to start the night with a gold medal. Later in the night it was Evan Bushman, Kuboushek, S. Conway and Jacob Herold joining forces in the 4×200 to blaze the way to the finish line in 1:35.57.
The Warriors also had a pair of silver medals. The 4×800 relay stopped the clock at 9:30.68 for runner-up. Members of the team were Toby Conway, Isaiah Kruckman, Chance Adam and Omar Flores. The night finished with Taylor, Bushman, S. Conway and Herold taking second in the 4×100 relay in 45.47 seconds.
Rounding out the top three finishes were S. Conway in the 100-meter dash (11.69), Logan Hageman in the 200-meter dash (25.03), Kruckman in the 800-meter run (2:16.83) and the shuttle hurdle relay (1:19.46).
