Girls fall to Cyclones
The girls’ game started off with a goal from Denver in the first two minutes, to which senior goalkeeper Grace Bachelder responded with a slew of blocks to ensure it didn’t happen again. One sly shot did get past with two minutes to go, however, when a Cyclone shot bounced off of the left goalpost, with the opposition beating the Vikings to the rebound for shot in goal.
Neither team was afraid to get aggressive in the second half, with plenty of jabs at the ball and even some free kicks from a few Denver pushes. Bachelder kept tallying up impressive saves as the half went on, but Denver was still able to find the back of the net two more times, one on a rush on goal, the other off of a corner kick. The game ended 0-4 for Denver.

Ranked opponent
The girls also faced off against Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday, April 26, in a home game, losing 10-0. The reigning state 2A champs scored eight times in the first and two in the second, ending the game early in the GoHawk’s favor.
“Our goalkeeper made a bunch of terrific saves among her twenty, but it was a matter of too much defending and not enough possession by Decorah to relieve some of the pressure,” Coach Loren Hendrickson said. “It seems Waverly just reloads year after year.”

Looking ahead
The girls won’t see action again until Monday, May 2, at Gladbrook-Reinbeck at 5:30 p.m.
