Local teams shine at South Winn invite

The South Winn track teams hosted the Warrior Invite Monday night.
The boys posted 165 points for the win, with Turkey Valley claiming second with 115 points. The Decorah junior varsity squad was also on the track finishing with 43 points in fifth place.
In the girls’ team race, it was Crestwood taking the top spot with 137 points. The Trojan girls also took the runner-up spot with 110 points, while Decorah was third with 87, followed by South Winn with 81.

SW dominates
The Warrior boys won eight of the events. Sam Conway claimed the 100-meter dash title in 11.83 seconds and the 200-meter dash crown in 23.81 seconds. Ethan Timp also was a two-time winner. He claimed the discus with a throw of 131 feet, 6 inches; and the shot put with a best of 41 feet, 5 inches.
Isaiah Kruckman went around the oval in the 400-meter run in 55.75 seconds. Senior Nick Holien was the winner of the high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 4 inches.
Two relays also won, including the shuttle hurdle in 1:18.27. Members of the team included Abe Conway, Aiden Feickert, Brady Ohrt and Kaden Bullerman. At the end of the night, it was the 4×100 relay of Keagen Streeter, Evan Bushman, S. Conway and Holien breaking the tape in 45.89 seconds.
A trio of girls’ events earned gold as well, including freshman Abby Wagner in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. The distance medley relay of Morgan Kriener, A. Wagner, Josie Tieskoetter and Eryn Sabelka came in first in 4:35.16. The night ended with another gold in the 4×400 in 4:34.83 for the same quartet.

Trojan gold
Turkey Valley had nine total events break the tape between the boys’ and girls’ events.
Kara Reicks, Josie Weber, Olivia Snyder and Jalyssa Blazek was the first to win in the sprint medley with a time of 1:57.83.
Blazek added a trio of individual titles to her night, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.72 seconds, the 800-meter run in 2:24.65 and the 1500-meter run in 5:06.32.
Claiming the top spot in the 4×100 relay in 56.48 seconds were Ryann Schmitt, Snyder, Reicks and Clare Courtney.
In boys’ action, junior Ryan Franzen was the lone individual winner as he took the gold in the 800-meter run in 2:13.96.
The sprint medley, 4×800 and 4×200 were also golden for the night.
In the first event it was Troy Schmitt, Noah Hanson, Marcus Herold and Chase Hayek blazing home in 1:14.33. Combining forces in the 4×800 were Russell Nieman, Franzen, Dylan Reicks and Hanson in 8:44.62. Hanson, Hayek, Reicks and Herold united their efforts in the 4×200 to win in 1:36.68.

Decorah highlights
The Vikings had small squads at South Winn with two girls’ events standing atop the podium.
Circling the track in the 400-meter run in 1:08.47 for first was Lillian Olson. The 4×200 relay also broke the tape in 2:00.20 with Britann Metille, Bridget Bentley, Dillan Johnson and Greta Jones.
The Decorah girls also had two relays claim silver including the distance medley (Kelly, Suhr, Steines, E. Johnson) in 4:58.25 and 4×100 of D. Johnson, Jones, Bentley and Metille in 57.64 seconds.
The Viking boys had a small squad at South Winn with the distance medley quartet of Josh Adam, Montana Jump-Gerleman, Kaiden Youngblood and Grant Zilka taking silver in 4:16.26.
