After rains moved through northeast Iowa Friday morning, the South Winn girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in West Union at the North Fayette Valley Co-Ed Invite.
In team scores, the boys finished third overall with 84 points. Clear Lake won the crown with 184.
The Warrior girls came in sixth with 50 points in a team race won by Crestwood who garnered 108 points.
Strong finishes
The girls had one individual take gold, one relay earn silver and two additional relays claim bronze.
On her own, Billie Wagner was the champion of the 1500-meter run in 5:17.41.
Eryn Sabelka, Josie Tieskoetter, Josie Tollefsrud and Megan Hageman combined for a 4×400 relay time of 4:37.81 to finish runner-up.
It was Morgan Kriener, Katie Shimek, Sabelka and Tieskoetter stopping the clock third in the sprint medley. The quartet posted a time of 2:03.33. Later in the distance medley it was Kriener, Sabelka, Tieskoetter and B. Wagner joining forces for bronze in 4:42.03.
Solid night
The Warriors had one relay break the tape along with five events take silver.
The lone golden performance came from Evan Bushman, Sam Conway, Aiden Feickert and Isaiah Kruckman in the distance medley. They broke the tape in 3:59.29.
In the field events it was Nick Holien taking silver in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 3 inches. Ethan Timp was also a runner-up in the shot put. The senior sent the weight 42 feet even.
Three relays came in second. First to claim silver was the sprint medley quartet of Keagen Streeter, Bushman, S. Conway and Nolan Sabelka in 1:47.00. At the end of the night, it was Streeter, Bushman, S. Conway and Holien crossing the finish line in 46.72 seconds in the 4×100 relay. The 4×400 relay capped off the night with a silver in 3:55.46. Members of the team were Kruckman, Kriener, Brady Ohrt and Brody Tieskoetter.
Busy week
The Warrior girls are at Waukon and the boys are on the oval at Osage Tuesday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will compete at Crestwood Thursday, April 28, at 4:30 p.m.
