Six local boys’ basketball players were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league team.
Representing South Winn were Trey Kriener, Keagen Streeter and Carson Wenthold and for Turkey Valley Dylan Reicks, Calvin Bodensteiner and Garrett Kurtenbach.
Kriener first team
Kriener, a senior, was the lone Warrior to be named to the first team. He averaged 18.7 points a game in conference action during 15 contests, hitting 45.3 percent from the field. He led the UIC in rebounds, as he pulled down 11.9 rebounds a contest, hauling in a total of 178 for the year (65 offensive, 113 defensive). Kriener added 29 assists, 15 steals and 11 blocked shots. This marks Kriener’s second time on the first team.
Second team for Reicks
A first-time honoree, Turkey Valley senior, Reicks led his team in scoring and rebounds with a total of 190 points and 117 boards (50 offensive, 67 defensive). He averaged 11.9 points a game in conference play to go with a rebounding average of 7.3 a night. Reicks also provided a team-high 11 blocked shots, 35 steals and 23 assists in his final season in a Trojan uniform.
Honorable mentions
Streeter and Wenthold represent the Warriors on the honorable mention list.
Streeter led South Winn and was second in the UIC in blocked shots with 23 and was second in scoring and rebounds. During his junior campaign, Streeter hit 42.2 percent from the floor and averaged 9.8 points per conference game, along with grabbing 8.6 boards a night. He had a total of 137 rebounds, including 54 offensive and 83 defensive, to go with 30 assists and 20 steals.
As the junior point guard, Wenthold earns his second All-UIC honorable mention nod after he led the team in assists and steals with 40 and 39, respectively. He contributed a total of 129 points in conference action, averaging 8.6 a game. He had 3.2 rebounds an outing for a total of 48 (9 offensive, 39 defensive).
Receiving honorable mention from Turkey Valley were Bodensteiner and G. Kurtenbach.
Earning his second-straight All-UIC honorable mention nod, Bodensteiner was third in scoring for the Trojans, averaging 7.0 points a night, tallying 112 for the UIC season. Under the basket he pulled down 3.7 rebounds per game with a total of 59 rebounds (35 offensive, 24 defensive). He also provided 29 steals, 18 assists and 11 blocked shots.
Concluding his senior campaign and receiving his third All-UIC honor, G. Kurtenbach was second in points for TV with a 10.9 per game average with 164 total. A perimeter shooter, he was 27.3 percent from beyond the arch. He also averaged 7.3 rebounds a night with 65 total boards (56 defensive, 9 offensively) and led the Trojans in steals with 48. Kurtenbach also added 39 assists and four blocked shots to the stat book for the UIC season.
