SW collects four golds at Jesup

Traveling to Jesup Tuesday night, the South Winn girls’ track and field got their first taste of an outdoor meet, finishing third with 77 points. North Linn claimed the team title with 142 points, followed by Wapsie Valley who garnered 102 points.

Traveling to Jesup Tuesday night, the South Winn girls’ track and field got their first taste of an outdoor meet, finishing third with 77 points. North Linn claimed the team title with 142 points, followed by Wapsie Valley who garnered 102 points.
Four events topped the field to win gold during the night. The 4×800 relay of Billie Wagner, Megan Hageman, Josie Tieskoetter and Eryn Sabelka was the first to break the tape. The quartet flew around the track for the win in 10:28.76. North Linn was a distant second in the race by 1:30 at 11:57.00.
Sabelka and Wagner won individual gold as well. Sabelka, a senior, bested the field in 2:37.18, with teammate Josie Tieskoetter crossing the finish line second in 2:41.17. Wagner broke the tape in 1500-meter run in 5:18.31, over 30 seconds ahead of second place. The final gold went to Anna Dietzenbach in the 3000-meter run, stopping the clock at 13:07.24.
 The next opportunity to see the South Winn girls in action is Thursday, April 7, at the Decorah invite at 5 p.m. The Warriors then have a week off between competitions when they return to Decorah for a second invitational Thursday, April 14, at 5 p.m.
