SW girls fourth, boys 14th at Anamosa

The South Winn boys’ and girls’ cross country teams made strides Saturday at Anamosa.

The South Winn boys’ and girls’ cross country teams made strides Saturday at Anamosa.

Fourth place
   The varsity girls had a big day, earning fourth in team scoring with 117 points. The Warriors, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, finished behind Class 2A No. 1 Monticello, Class 3A No. 4 Solon and Class 2A No. 5 Tipton. South Winn had average time 21:59, with a spread of 1:32.
   Overall winner was Solon senior Kayla Young in 19:38 who is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A.
   Billie Wagner had a time 21:15 to claim 10th place. Close behind her was Josie Tieskoetter. The junior earned 17th in 21:27. Megan Hageman stopped the clock at 21:50, good for 22nd place. Anna Dietzenbach had a time of 22:36 to take 33rd place, while Maddi Jansen concluded the team score in 35th place. The freshman posted a time of 22:46. Ella Willey and Karissa Wenthold also ran varsity. Willey had a time of 22:53, taking 36th. Wenthold earned 41st in 23:33.

Varsity boys
   The varsity boys had a strong day, finishing 14th in the teams standing with 315 points. Class 2A No. 1 Tipton won the team title with 66 points. South Winn had an average time of 19:59 and a spread of 48 seconds.
   Bo Wangsness led the Warriors. The junior had a time of 19:43, earning 59th overall. Right on his heels was senior Omar Flores in 60th place with a time of 19:48. John Donovan crossed the finish line in 19:52 to take 62nd place, while Abe Conway was 64th in 19:59. Concluding the team score was Hunter Wagner. His time of 20:31 was good for 70th. Brad Dahl and Dawson Wenthold also ran varsity. Dahl toured the course in 21:01, earning 78th; while Wenthold had a time of 21:02, placing 79th.

Cresco Saturday
   The Warriors are at Cresco Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., and host an invitational Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 5 p.m., at South Winn Golf and Country Club.
