SW girls grind out one-point victory

The outdoor season is off to a good start for the South Winn girls’ track and field team who competed at the Lady J-Hawk invite in Jesup Tuesday night, winning by a one-point margin.
The meet is divided into two classes. The Warriors were in Class B, taking first of eight teams with 106 points, just ahead of Starmont’s 105. Dike-New Hartford won Class A with 150.50 points.
The Warriors placed first in six events and were runners-up in two others.
Emma Houdek was the champion of the long jump. The senior leapt 15 feet 1.5 inches. Fellow senior Emmaleigh Ohrt reigned over the discus field with a throw of 100 feet 7 inches. With the launch of 92 feet 9 inches, Emma Barness was the discus runner-up. 
Eryn Sabelka broke the tape in the 800-meter run in 2:36.38, while teammate Billie Wagner raced her to the finish line for second in 2:36.42. Megan Hageman was the long-distance medalist in the 3000-meter run, topping the field in 12:58.24.
Two relays won titles including the 4×400 and 4×800. Members of both relays were Billie Wagner, Sabelka, Josie Tieskoetter and Becca Wagner.
Placing third was M. Hageman in the 1500-meter run (5:56.43) and the shuttle hurdle relay of Hannah Franzen, Gabby Becker, Houdek and Josie Hageman (1:23.15).

Back on track
The Warriors will be at the Decorah Invite tonight (Thursday, April 8) at 5 p.m.
