Ten Trojans recognized; Scott Coach of the Year

Ten members of the Turkey Valley football team were named to the Eight Man District 3 all-district list.
Six were named to the first team, two to the second and two were named honorable mention.
In addition, Marcus Herold was named the offensive player of the year. Turkey Valley coach Mark Scott was named the coach of the year.

Player of the Year
Herold was named first team last season and was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore. During his senior campaign he had 1,171 yards rushing and averaged 7.0 yards per carry and had 24 touchdowns to lead District 3. He also had 13 receptions for an additional 164 yards for one touchdown. His 25 touchdowns was the best of the district, just ahead of teammate Noah Hanson.

First team
Five other Trojans were named to the first team, besides Herold.
Seniors Collin Kleppe, Dylan Reicks and Garrett Kurtenbach, along with juniors Noah Hanson and Calvin Bodensteiner were honored.
Kleppe was named second team in 2020. The senior was a mainstay on the offensive line, where he helped the Trojans to 2,679 yards rushing and 806 passing to score 59 touchdowns.
Reicks is earning his first district nod. He was third on the team in rushing with 426 yards on 59 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per touch. He averaged 18.7 yards per catch as the second-leading receiver for the Trojans as he tallied 10 total touchdowns. On defense, the linebacker led TV with 55.5 total tackles, including 32 solo stops, 2.5 sacks and four tackles-for-loss.
Averaging 15.0 yards per reception, Kurtenbach led the Trojans in the passing game with 240 yards and eight touchdowns. The senior was also third in tackles with 36 total stops with 5.5 sacks and 13 solo tackles for his second first-team nod.
Hanson receives a first-team designation for the second time as well as the Trojans’ quarterback. During his junior campaign, he completed 50-for-85 passes for 751 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hanson carried the pigskin 94 times for 498 yards and seven TDs. He also caught one pass for 33 yards. He also handled much of the return duties with 13 kick returns for 335 yards and 10 punt returns for 237 yards.
Playing defensive back, Bodensteiner accumulated 31.5 tackles which included 25 solo stops. He also had four interceptions to lead the Trojans. The junior also pulled down three receptions for 61 yards and scored a touchdown on offense.

Second team
Carson Busta and Ryan Franzen, both juniors, were named to the second team.
Busta was an honorable mention selection in 2020. Carrying the pigskin, he averaged 6.3 yards in his 40 carries for 251 yards and scored four touchdowns. The junior also caught six passes for 57 yards. Defensively, Busta had 31 total tackles with 17 solo stops for Turkey Valley.
Earning his first all-district nod, Franzen provided 34 total tackles on the Trojan defense with 14 solo stops, three sacks and five tackles for loss. The junior had two interceptions and one fumble recovery as well.

Honorable mention
Austin Kuehner and Treyton Hulbert garnered honorable mention nods.
Kuehner, a senior, was another member of the Trojan offensive line that tallied 3,485 for the season and helped TV to the undefeated regular season. Last season he was a second team honoree.
Hulbert put together a fine kicking season for the Trojans for his first nod. He booted the ball on kick-offs 63 times for 2,580 and had 11 touchbacks.
