Upper Iowa Conference track teams took to the oval at Luther College Friday night at the UIC indoor meet.
No team scores were kept.
Trojan gold
Turkey Valley had six gold-winning events between the girls’ and boys’ teams.
For the girls, Jacqlyn Schmitt heaved the shot put 29 feet 5.75 inches for the title. Jalyssa Blazek finished the night with a pair of individual golds including the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. The TV senior broke the tape in the shorter event in 1:01.37, then bested the 800-meter field by seven seconds with a time of 2:27.19.
Finishing with silver was a trio of relays, including the 4×200 in 1:57.94, 4×800 in 12:21.1 and distance medley in 4:40.9.
Three Trojan relays bested the field in the boys’ events. First on the track was the 4×800, winning in 9:07.4. Members of the winning relay were Ryan Franzen, Dylan Reicks, Chase Hayek and Burke Busta. Later it was Carson Busta, Oliver Schmitt, Calvin Bodensteiner and Garrett Dietzenbach teaming up for a time of 4:03.7 to win the distance medley. The night ended with a gold-medal performance in the 4×400. Winning in 4:52.36 were B. Busta, Marcus Herold, Reicks and Noah Hanson.
B. Busta, Herold, Hanson and Troy Schmitt came up a little short in the 4×200 in 1:41.92, to bring home silver.
Strong SW efforts
The Warriors came away without any winning performances, but earned several silver medals.
Billie Wagner raced her way to second place in the 3000-meter run, posting a time of 11:49.3, in the girls’ races. In the girls’ shuttle hurdle relay, it was Josie Hageman, Izzy Kuboushek, Kelsey Timp and Hailey Riehle running the obstacles in 42.79 seconds for silver.
Lukas Weiss was a two-time silver medalist, including individually in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.61 seconds. He also teamed up with Nolan Sabelka, Aiden Feickert and Isaiah Kruckman in the distance medley for a time of 4:04.7.
Coming up
Both South Winn and Turkey Valley were to have opened the outdoor season Tuesday, March 29, at Sumner-Fredericksburg, however due to wind and cold the meet was cancelled. Later in the week, Friday, April 1, the Trojans will return to the track at North Fayette Valley at 4:30 p.m.
