A combined 11 athletes from Turkey Valley and South Winn softball teams were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league softball team, released recently.
The Trojans had seven athletes, while South Winn had four.
First team
Named to the first team were Trojans Josie Weber, Aleah Hackman and Kara Reicks, while Mary Frana and Ruth Frana represented South Winn.
Weber collected her third straight first team accolade, throwing for 114 innings to earn a 12-6 record. She finished the season with a 2.09 earned run average (ERA), giving up 34 earned runs and striking out 137 batters. The junior also led the Trojans, as well as the UIC, at the plate with a .448 batting average and .655 slugging mark. J. Weber produced 39 hits, including 10 doubles, two home runs and a triple while driving in 26 runs. She also had 12 stolen bases.
Playing a variety of positions, Hackman received her second first team honor as a senior this year. She was second in the batter’s box with a .404 average. Hackman slugged out 38 hits, including 15 doubles and had a team-high 41 RBI. The senior also made 15 appearances in the pitcher’s circle for an 8-5 record, 3.84 ERA and 55 strikeouts.
Reicks was third on the Trojan squad with a .390 hitting average to earn her second straight first team commendation. In 105 at-bats, she had eight doubles, four triples and one home run as she led TV with 41 hits and drove in 12 runs. The junior was third in the conference in stolen bases going 28-for-29.
A senior, M. Frana led the Warriors with an average of .446, .458 on-base percentage and .708 slugging mark to earn her second first team distinction. She topped the SW hit column with 29, producing 10 doubles, two triples and one home run. M. Frana drove in 15 runs and scored 20 times for the Warriors. On the base paths, she was 17-for-17 in stolen bases.
R. Frana finished her junior campaign with a .364 batting average and her first all-UIC nod. She had an on-base percentage of .457 and .468 slugging mark as she was second in hits for South Winn with 28 in her 77 at-bats. R. Frana led the Warriors in RBI with 21, while coming away with 14 stolen bases.
Second team
Turkey Valley’s Jalyssa Blazek and Aubrey Hoffert were named to the second team.
Blazek, a junior, is honored for the second time in her career. She hit .273 this season, with a .371 on-base percentage and .455 slugging mark. In 99 at-bats, she pounded 27 hits, with 29 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 28 RBI. She also stole 8-out-of-8 bases.
From first base, Hoffert earned her first all-UIC designation with a .375 batting average. She had a .432 slugging percentage and .429 on-base mark. The sophomore had 33 hits, with five doubles and 20 RBI.
Honorable mention
Two athletes from each team were recognized as being named honorable mention. For Turkey Valley, Sophia Adams and Olivia Drilling were chosen.
Adams, a senior outfielder earned her inaugural conference honor, having batted .239 this season. She produced a .400 on-base percentage and .268 slugging mark. Adams pounded 17 hits in 71 at-bats, with two doubles and eight RBI.
Another outfielder, first-time honoree Drilling hit .323 for the Trojans, with a .354 on-base percentage and .387 slugging mark. She had 20 hits, including four doubles and drove in 12 runs.
South Winn recognized Emma Houdek and Alison Heying.
Warrior senior outfielder, Houdek, knocked out 21 hits and drove in 18 runs in her 68 at-bats for her first all-UIC honor. At the end of the season, she posted a .309 average, .382 on-base percentage and .368 slugging mark. Her 19 successful stolen bases were second on the SW squad.
First time honoree Heying led the Warriors in stolen bases, going 24-for-24, in addition to the second-best batting average at .424. The sophomore had an on-base percentage of .534, to go with a .610 slugging mark. Heying knocked out 25 hits including four triples and two doubles and drove in 19 runs.
