Vikes claim WaHawk Invite crown

After getting in the water earlier last week, the Decorah boys’ swim team splashed some water on the competition again Saturday at the WaHawk Invite in Waterloo.
The Vikings garnered 370 points to finish first, a distant second was Vinton-Shellsburg/Center Point-Urbana with 240 points.

Decorah made a lot of waves Saturday with five golds and a trio of silver. First to win a race was Drew Chamberlain in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.50. Dominic Bigalk also won an individual title in the 500 free in 5:36.45. 
Following suit in 1:36.70, was the 200 free relay. Members of the winning relay were Chamberlain, Gareth Sweet, Dylan Hogan and Simon Kutz. Chamberlain then claimed his third gold of the day in the 100 backstroke. The senior touched the wall first in 56.19 seconds.
The day ended with the 400 free relay claiming the title. Sweet, Kutz, Bigalk and Chamberlain combined for a time of 3:36.71 for gold.
Bringing home silver for Decorah were the 200 medley relay, Bigalk in the 200 IM and Cote in the 100 breast.
It will be a week between competitions as Decorah won’t return to the pool until Saturday, Jan. 15, at Fort Dodge for the final regular season meet of the year.
