By Becky Walz,
In its second home meet of the year, the Decorah girls’ track and field team hosted a seven team invite Thursday night.
The Vikes controlled the meet, winning with 145 points. Dubuque Senior was second with 113. South Winn posted 43 points, good for seventh.
Running away
The Vikings took gold in seven events.
Chloe Reiser was the winner of the shot put with a throw of 37 feet 9.5 inches. Bella Knutson was the winner in the 100-meter hurdles, racing over the obstacles in 15.90 seconds.
Decorah broke the tape in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:08.27. The winning quartet consisted of Lani Hubka, Anya Lovstuen, Kallie Mincks and Knutson. The 4×200 relay of Sami Mount, Brinley Krivachek, Kailyn O’Gara and Hubka combined for a time of 1:50.11 for first. Decorah’s weight women claimed gold in the 4×100 event. Jensen Korsness, Annaleissa Arnold, Camielle Weidow and Rebecca Bruening stopped the clock at 1:04.46.
Posting a time of 52.91 seconds was the winning 4×100 quartet of Hayley Stowe, Knutson, O’Gara and Grace Thompson. In the final event of the night, the 4×400 circled the oval with a winning time of 4:15.50. Members of the title team were Mount, Mincks, Emma Nierengarten and Hubka.
Another good effort
South Winn had a fine effort from its team, garnering two golds and one silver.
Senior Emmaleigh Ohrt’s discus throw of 118 feet 3 inches not only clinched the title, but also a coveted spot in the field of 24 at the Drake Relays later this week. She is the only Class 1A athlete who will be competing in the event.
The 4×800 relay of Megan Hageman, Billie Wagner, Eryn Sabelka and Josie Tieskoetter ran away from the field to win gold in 10:39.19, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up Vikings.
Sabelka was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:35.59.

Decorah will compete at Crestwood today, Tuesday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m.
