The Decorah boys’ swim team reigned supreme Friday, winning its lone home meet with 418 points. Coming in a distant second was Vinton-Shellsburg/CPU with 261 points.
The Vikings swam away with five golds in the course of the meet that began with the first event — the 200 medley relay. Drew Chamberlain, Isaac Knaack, James VanderVelden and Simon Kutz touched the wall first in 1:45.75. Dominic Bigalk followed suit with a win in the 200 free, stopping the clock at 1:49.29.
Chamberlain won three more golds during the night, including two individual events. The senior rode the waves to a win in the 100 free in 51.02 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 56.08 seconds. He also anchored the 400 free relay to gold in 3:33.44. Other members of the winning relay were Knaack, Kutz and Gareth Sweet.
Decorah also had four events take home second-place finishes including Knaack in the 200 individual medley, Sweet in the 100 butterfly, Bigalk in the 500 free and Mason Cote in the 100 breaststroke.
The Decorah squad will enjoy some rest over the holidays before getting back to competition Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Vinton-Shellsburg at 4:30 p.m.
