By a narrow four-point margin, the Decorah girls’ track and field team managed to best the quality field at the Patrick J. Murphy Invitational held at Dubuque Senior Tuesday night. The Vikings secured 104 points during the night, ahead of Dubuque Hempstead’s 100.
“We were happy to have the opportunity to compete last night. The weather wasn’t great, but we were happy with the night,” said co-coaches Cristy Nimrod and Brad Johansen.
Three events won gold, while five others claimed silver during the night.
In the shot put it was junior Chloe Reiser heaving the weight 38 feet 2.5 inches for the win. Sydney Kipp also won an individual gold in the 100-meter hurdles, breaking the tape in 17.52 seconds. The shuttle hurdle relay crossed the finish line in first in 1:15.90.
Sharing the silver medal in the high jump were seniors Annika Franzen and Ashley Schneberger as each cleared the bar at 4 feet 8 inches. Two relays were also the runners-up — the 4×200 and sprint medley.
